Youth Development and Apprenticeship Centres
The
Youth Development and Apprenticeship Centres (YDACs) target young men 15-17 years old. These Centres; Chatham and Persto Praesto, provide not only technical vocational skills training in a residential two-year programme, but seek also to provide a holistic approach to the personal development and empowerment of the young men. The Centres are managed by Camp Directors and Assistant Camp Directors.The Ministry has completed refurbishment works on the two Centres to ensure that the necessary infrastructural upgrades, support the needs of the trainees. The Ministry is also involved in re-engineering and modernizing of the Facilities, examining issues such as the curriculum, the psychological support for Trainees, ICT, innovation, creativity and entrepreneurship.
The Ministry has established a Committee to address the modernization of the Centres Programme and has engaged the services of the University of Trinidad and Tobago (UTT) to assist.
