On Wednesday, 12th October 2016, the Honourable Darryl Smith, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, will give the opening remarks at the Morvant Recreational Ground, Park Street, Morvant at 9:00am.
The Honourable Minister indicated that this initiative is to showcase how the Ministry is working with the Pro League to get the community grounds ready so that the games can be played in the communities and taken back to the ‘grassroots’.
The Recreational ground was upgraded and recommissioned back in May 2015, which included: the expansion of the pavilion space; installation of spectator benches, cafeteria and meeting room, public restrooms, athletes showers and storage rooms; installation of open Wi-Fi internet access; construction of proper access ramps and viewing areas for the differently-abled; and construction and landscaping of the entire usable space surrounding the pavilion.
Expected to attend are the Honourable Darryl Smith, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs; Adrian Leonce, Member of Parliament, Laventille East/Morvant; Dexter Skeene, CEO Pro League; Larry Romany, Chairman Pro League; Jamal Shabazz – Caledonia AIA; Franz Lamkin – Councillor Anthony Blake; Executive Manager (Ag) Facilities Management; Ephraim Serrette; and NAAA Morvant resident.
