The Honourable Darryl Smith, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs delivered remarks at the Kelvin Nancoo West Games on Tuesday, March 7th, 2017, held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
The competition, which is sponsored by MILO and has come to be widely known as the MILO Games, is celebrating its 30th anniversary. The Games saw the participation of twenty-two (22) primary schools vying for the honour of being crowned the 2017 champions. The day’s activities commenced with a vibrant march past competition featuring a variety of creative presentations. There were several individual and relay track events and field events ranging from high jump and broad jump to shot put, javelin and discus throw. Diamond Vale Government, Carenage Girls Government and Dunross Preparatory emerged victorious at the end of the Games.
Minister Smith thanked MILO for its commitment and longstanding sponsorship of the Games which were first held in 1987. Addressing the youth, he advised them to strive to maintain the balance between their involvement in sport and academics and emphasized that they should always remember to be disciplined and to be respectful to their parents and teachers.
