The Honourable Darryl Smith, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, presented two- time Olympic medalist Keshorn Walcott with the first tranche of his Elite Athlete Assistance Programme (EAAP) cheque valued at TT $125,000.00 on Wednesday 19th April, 2017.

The EAAP is an initiative by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago that provides financial assistance to outstanding athletes in support of their preparation for and participation in international competitions. Athletes who benefit from this programme include those who have medaled in the Olympic Games, World Championships, Commonwealth Games, Senior Pan American Games, Senior Central American Games and Caribbean Games.

This initiative is done in two parts where the athletes are given funding bi- annually. The Ministry is currently processing applications of the other Elite Athletes and cheque distribution will follow.
