Representatives from various National Governing Bodies (NGBs) as well as former athletes together with The Honourable Darryl Smith, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs

The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs hosted a Stakeholder Consultation on Friday 03rd November, 2017 at the National Racquet Centre in Tacarigua. This consultation was geared toward discussing inputs for a policy to guide the development of the legislative framework that will allow for the repealing of the existing Boxing Control Act Chapter 21:52 and subsequent dissolution of the Trinidad Boxing Board of Control. This will pave the way for the establishment of the new Trinidad and Tobago Combat Sports Commission.

In his brief remarks to those in attendance, the Honourable Darryl Smith, Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, indicated that the Ministry was consulting all stakeholders in the sporting fraternity for the further development of not only combat sports but all sports. He also suggested that in order for the best synergies to be found in sporting disciplines, National Governing Bodies within those disciplines have to work together.

Minister Smith acknowledged the valuable contribution that all stakeholders present could bring to the process and urged them to set aside personal prejudices to work together for the advancement of Combat Sports.

The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs looks forward to partnering with all stakeholders and assisting the Combat Sports fraternity in creating an environment that promotes safety and success for all involved. The establishment of this Commission is a positive step forward for the development of sport in Trinidad and Tobago.
