The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs (MSYA) is in the process of developing a new National Youth Policy, and is therefore inviting members of the public, particularly the youth, youth-led stakeholders and youth-serving stakeholders, to submit comments on both the new National Youth Policy 2018-2023-Working Document and the older National Youth Policy 2012-2017 Document. These comments will assist the Ministry in determining whether there are additional needs, requirements or gaps to be addressed in the new Policy, focusing specifically on youth between the ages of 12 to 29 years of age.
The National Youth Policy is part of Trinidad and Tobago’s obligation as a signatory to a number of regional and international declarations. It represents the single authority for the Government’s voice on all matters related to youth development and provides direction for youth advancement and empowerment. At present the National Youth Policy, 2012-2017 is still being utilized to provide strategic direction to effect Government’s priorities in the areas of youth advancement and development, until the new National Youth Policy, 2018-2023 is completed and approved.
The formulation of a new National Youth Policy necessitates a consultative and interactive process with key stakeholders. The MSYA has hosted thirteen (13) consultations across both Trinidad and Tobago thus far, and the findings from these have been captured in the document entitled “National Youth Policy 2018-2023 - Working Document” which has been posted on the Ministry’s Website https://www.msya.gov.tt/ alongside a copy of the National Youth Policy, 2012-2017.
An invitation is now being extended to you to participate in the consultation and feedback process. You may do so by sending your views, opinions and recommendations to the email addresses provided and/or our social media platforms. The Ministry regards our stakeholders’ input as valuable and thank you in advance for your assistance.
