Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs, the Honourable Phillip Watts, received a courtesy visit from President of the Trinidad Rifle Association (TRA), Mr. Robert V. Charles, along with Mr. Jerry Brooks, Mr. Gideon McNicholls, Ms. Veda Persad and Ms. Andrea Lee Kim, at the Ministry’s Head Office ahead of the national team’s participation in the upcoming IPSC Pan American Handgun Championships in Aruba.
The TRA has selected a contingent of 23 athletes to represent Trinidad and Tobago at the prestigious regional competition. The team is scheduled to depart Trinidad and Tobago on Saturday 21 August 2026 and return on 1 September 2026.
The Championships will provide a significant opportunity for local athletes to compete against some of the leading practical shooting competitors from across the Americas, while gaining valuable international exposure and competitive experience.
In preparation for the Pan American Championships, the national team most recently competed at the Barbados Open, held from 26 to 29 June 2026, where athletes continued to sharpen their skills and build momentum for the upcoming event.
During the visit, Minister Watts conveyed his full support to the team and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to advancing sport development and youth empowerment throughout Trinidad and Tobago.
