#TTTNews The grand finale of the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs Football Fiesta in celebration of the FIFA World Cup 2026 took place on Friday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, and the turnout was impressive.
It was a football-filled Friday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium as the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs, in collaboration with the US Embassy, the High Commissioner of Canada and the Embassy of Mexico, hosted the Finale of the popular Football Fiesta 2026 in celebration of the FIFA World Cup 2026.
The Event featured under 20 teams from Naparima and Fatima Colleges, the Youth Training and Rehabilitation Centre, and a representative team from the East West Corridor Football League…three exhibition teams were also on show, with the Nationals made up of T&T Players, an MSYA XI, and the ever-popular team from the Diplomatic Corps, Diplo FC.
Key partners in the initiative included the Sport Company of T&T, T&T Prison Service, and the National Carnival Commission.
Minister of Sport and Youth Affairs Phillip Watts expressed pleasure in the outcome of the Football Fiesta series.
Minister Watts urged those in attendance to carry the lessons learnt forward.
The Minister then proceeded to give his Cabinet colleague, Minister of Defence Wayne Sturge, some moral support before he took the field against FC Diplo.
Minister Sturge then went out and kept close tabs on French Ambassador His Excellency Guillaume Pierre, who is known to have some touches.
